Posters, illustrations, buying pots, giving plants, workshop...

Today we are working at Nikitas place on the posters and the illustrations, and some other different small things that needs to be done. There is a lot of work to do but its ok. Especially when you get home made ragi cookies and strawberry milkshake...

milkshake and cookies...

We went to see Jackson yesterday. He was super sweet and helpfull. He showed us his roof garden and his books. He has some amazing books that we will go and look at later. We hope to get advise from him on growing the small gardens we were thinking of making. And a lot of other things. He gave us a this one below. which is full of seeds. We will try to grow it. We are just finding the correct name...

tree shapers!

"This website has some of the most amazing furniture art ever. This stuff takes years to make and is wonderful cross between forestry and high design. It’s called Pooktre. The artists form living trees into furniture as the trees grow. When the tree is the perfect shape, it is harvested, dried and finished."

http://www.pooktre.com/

"Gradual Tree shaping is where you create a design and build the supporting frame work to grow the tree or trees into shape rather then bending living trees. Start with seedlings or saplings 3–12 in. (7.6–30.5 cm) long. This method is a day to day or weeky training of the new growth. Pooktre uses this method becuse the growth of the tree remaines strong with even and balacned growth as nothing is forced. Small designs can be grow into shape in one growing season, Bigger designs like chairs my take 2 or 3 years to grow into the design, then 5 or 7 years before they are ready to sit in."

note: my sincere apologies for posting incorrect information about the gradual tree shaping method. thank you to Becky and Pook for correcting me.

posters!

These were our first posters that we gave the kids at shibumi. These were for them to update the growth of their plants.
The response we got for these were so incredible, way better than what we had hoped for!
"can we tick in the box every time we water the plant??" "why isn't the sunflower coloured...Can we colour the flower?"
"I'm going to make the fence next week!!" "wow, they used singapore cherries to catch fish. That's so cool. But how?..can we try when we get cherries on our tree?"

The kids seem to be extremely excited with using the posters.

We have asked the teachers at shibumi to help the kids take pictures and upload it on our blog. This we felt would be a great way of following the process, as well as to test one of our final ideas, which is to have an online plant community where people can share stories and growth of their plants.
